Eclipse Across America: Monday, August 21
The last total solar eclipse that was visible in the continental United States was in 1979. In less than two weeks a total solar eclipse will cross the country from Oregon to South Carolina and Nashville is in the path of totality! Live on the Green: St. Paul and the Broken Bones

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 10, 6:15 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

This is the season opener for the ninth annual concert series! This series brings local and national artists to the stage in Public Square, located in front of the Metro Courthouse. Blankets, folding chairs, strollers and water bottles are welcome at this free four-week concert series. The lineup for Thursday, August 10 includes Arkells, Michael Franti & Spearhead and St. Paul and the Broken Bones as the headliner. $5 parking is available in the Metro Courthouse parking garage, located directly below the park. Or, take advantage of free bicycle parking.‚Äč This event is free, but VIP backstage passes ($150) are available for an upgraded experience.

Please note: road closures associated with this event. 

- James Robertson Parkway (3rd Avenue North to Metro Courthouse parking entrance): one lane (eastbound traffic) will be closed from 9 am - midnight, with the exception of 4 pm - 6 pm for rush hour
- Union Street (3rd Avenue North to 1st Avenue North): two lanes (westbound traffic) will be closed from 9 am - 11 pm
- Woodland Street Bridge (Union Street to Nissan Stadium parking lots): one lane (westbound traffic) will be closed from 5 pm - 11 pm
- Deaderick Street (3rd Avenue North to 5th Avenue North) will be closed from 2 pm - 11 pm
- 3rd Avenue North (James Robertson Parkway to Union Street) will be closed from 9 am - 11 pm

 

Street Food Thursdays

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 10, 11 AM - 2 PM

Enjoy a gathering of up to 20 local food trucks parked along Deaderick Street between 4th Avenue North and 5th Avenue North! This event takes place every Thursday. Please note: road closure associated with this event. Deaderick Street (4th Avenue North to 5th Avenue North) will be closed from 9 am - 2 pm on the day of the event.

 

Tough Mudder

 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 12, 8 AM
LOCATION: NISSAN STADIUM SINGLE TICKET: $69 - $79

Tough Mudder 5K isn't an ordinary fun run. You’ll conquer 10 best-in-class teamwork obstacles on your way to the finish line, and you’ll have the time of your life along the way. Reach for the sky as you conquer Everest 2.0, climb stacks of fellow Mudders to outsmart Pyramid Scheme and swing your way to victory. Please note: road closures associated with this event.  Victory Avenue (South 2nd Street to Titans Way), Titans Way (Victory Avenue to Russell Street), Russell Street (Titans Way to South 2nd Street) and South 2nd Street (Russell Street to Victory Avenue) will be closed from 5 am - 9 pm latest on Saturday, August 12.

 

An Art Deco Affair

LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS $65

Celebrate the Golden Age of Glamour while supporting the care of the Frist Center's 1930s art deco building. Enjoy light bites provided by Morph Hospitality Group, cocktails and music by DJ AyDamn. Your ticket to An Art Deco Affair will also give you access to the hands-on activities in the award-winning Martin ArtQuest Gallery and to exclusive talks about "Ancestral Modern: Australian Aboriginal Art from the Kaplan & Levi Collection," "Pattern Recognition: Art and Music Videos in Middle Tennessee," "State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now" and "Vadis Turner: Tempest."

 

Nashville Maroons vs. Phoenix of East Nashville

 

SUNDAY, AUGUST 13, 2:30 PM
LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL MALL FREE

This match of vintage base ball (it was two words in the 1860s!) has been organized by the Tennessee Association of Vintage Base Ball. Players will use the rules, equipment, costumes and culture of the 1860s - 1880s. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnics are welcome at this event.

 

Free Classic Car Show

 

SUNDAY, AUGUST 13, 3 PM - 7 PM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER FREE

Before Jay Leno takes the stage at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the Nashville Symphony—in conjunction with the Lane Motor Museum—will kick off Leno’s appearance with a free display of rare and unusual automobiles. In recognition of Leno’s love of classic cars, the Symphony has invited auto collectors from across Middle Tennessee to display their vehicles from 3 pm - 7 pm directly in front of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center before the 7:30 pm performance. More than a dozen cars will be featured, ranging from pre-World War II classics to ’50s and ’60s sports models to modern “muscle” cars.

 

Whiskey Wednesdays with Jack Daniel's

 

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 16, 5 PM
LOCATION: UNION STATION HOTEL FREE

Two Tennessee landmarks, Union Station Hotel and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, have come together to introduce Whiskey Wednesdays with Jack Daniel's, a free whiskey tasting series in the downtown Nashville hotel’s grand lobby every other Wednesday. Each installment is open to the public and will kick off in the lobby around 5 pm; no RSVP necessary. The experience includes tastings and a guided discussion of the history and production of each handcrafted whiskey. Attendees can also look forward to Jack Daniel’s heritage trivia questions and prizes, a virtual reality experience that takes guests on a 360-degree tour of the distillery and an open Q&A session.

 

Tennessee’s Total Solar Eclipse: How, Why & What to Expect

LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

Vanderbilt astronomer Dr. William Teets will speak on the total solar eclipse that will take place on Monday, August 21. In this presentation, he will discuss how a solar eclipse happens, why this is such a rare occurrence and what we can expect. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from an astronomer all about the total solar eclipse coming to Tennessee’s sky. Whether you bring your lunch in a brown bag or grab a sandwich from a nearby shop, bring it to the Museum and enjoy an interesting talk while you eat.

Broadway (3rd Avenue to 4th Avenue) will be closed from 4 pm - 11 pm latest on Tuesday, August 15 due to TMW & Tequila Cowboy (private event). Estimated attendance is 1,800.

Downtown Residential Report

We have released our 2017 Residential Report and the results from the 2017 downtown residential survey. Check out the stats about the downtown residential market. 53% of the people who live downtown work outside of downtown. By the end of 2017 over 11,000 residents will be living in over 7,300 housing units. However, we still have less housing stock than our peer cities. The rental occupancy rate in downtown Nashville is currently 95%.

Give Real Change. Not Spare Change

We encourage you to give to community service providers in order to have a more lasting impact than giving to people who are panhandling. Check out these suggestions and redirect your generosity through time or money.
