Live on the Green: Local Natives

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 17, 6:15 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

Enjoy live music outside in Public Square, located in front of the Metro Courthouse! This ninth annual concert series brings local and national artists to the stage. Blankets, folding chairs, strollers and water bottles are welcome at this free four-week concert series. The lineup for Thursday, August 17 includes Minus The Bear, Real Estate and headliner Local Natives. $5 parking is available in the Metro Courthouse parking garage, located directly below the park. Or, take advantage of free bicycle parking.‚Äč This event is free, but VIP lounge passes ($80) and VIP backstage passes ($150) are available for an upgraded experience.

- James Robertson Parkway (3rd Avenue North to Courtyard parking entrance): One lane (eastbound traffic) will be closed from 9 am - midnight, with the exception of 4 pm - 6 pm for rush hour
- Union Street (3rd Avenue North to 1st Avenue North): Two lanes (westbound traffic) will be closed from 9 am - 11 pm
- Woodland Street Bridge (Union Street to Nissan Stadium parking lots): One lane (westbound traffic) will be closed from 5 pm - 11 pm

Tennessee’s Total Solar Eclipse: How, Why & What to Expect

Vanderbilt astronomer Dr. William Teets will speak on the total solar eclipse that will take place on Monday, August 21. In this presentation, he will discuss how a solar eclipse happens, why this is such a rare occurrence and what we can expect. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from an astronomer all about the total solar eclipse coming to Tennessee’s sky during this lunch and learn. Whether you bring your lunch in a brown bag or grab a sandwich from a nearby shop, bring it to the Museum and enjoy an interesting talk while you eat.

 

Watermelon Night Market

Relax and unwind at Night Market, a monthly event that takes place on the third Friday at the Nashville Farmers' Market both outside under the sheds as well as inside the Market House. Enjoy an evening of shopping, sipping, dancing to live music, kids' activities and eating—all with local food artisans, artists, crafters, flea merchants, farmers and food trucks. Each month features different special events and featured artisans. This month is watermelon themed! Enjoy watermelon-eating contests for kids and adults, watermelon seed-spitting contests, fresh watermelon cocktails and free samples.

 

Italian Lights Festival featuring Official NASA Viewing Party for Solar Eclipse

 

FRIDAY, AUGUST 18 - MONDAY, AUGUST 21, FRIDAY: 2 PM - 10 PM; SATURDAY & SUNDAY: 10 AM - 10 PM; MONDAY: 10 AM - 6 PM
LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL MALL FREE

Enjoy the sights and sounds of Italy—Music City style! The eighth annual Italian Lights Festival features the culture and cuisine of the old country in a family-friendly environment. The festival is free to the public and features live music each day, in addition to 100 arts, crafts and food vendors. Featured events include traditional grape stomping, a bocce ball tournament, kids' events and the popular meatball-eating contest. Wine experts will also lead cultivated wine tasting events over the course of the weekend. Unique this year is the viewing of the total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21! This event has been designated as an official NASA viewing location for the solar eclipse in Music City. NASA scientists and educators will be at the festival all weekend preparing for the big countdown on Monday afternoon. Plus, they'll have more than 10,000 pairs of free eclipse glasses for attendees.

 

Jazz on the Cumberland

 

SUNDAY, AUGUST 20, 5:30 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: CUMBERLAND PARK FREE

The sixth season of Jazz on the Cumberland continues on Sunday, August 20 featuring great live music by The Denny Jiosa Band! Food trucks and concessions open at 4 pm, and live jazz is from 5:30 pm - 8 pm. Plus, the event will also feature a kids' zone beginning at 5:30 pm. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome at this event. $5 parking is available at Nissan Stadium Lots R & T. This event takes place on the third Sunday of every month through October.

 

Eclipse Shopping Pop-up

 

SUNDAY, AUGUST 20, 10 AM - 4 PM
LOCATION: UNION STATION HOTEL FREE TO ATTEND

Before the sky goes dark for the total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21, Union Station Hotel will host several Nashville Fashion Alliance brands in the grand lobby for an eclipse shopping pop-up on Sunday, August 20 from 10 am - 4 pm. Participating vendors include Nashville Fashion Alliance members Bone Feather (specializing in handcrafted leather bags and small leather goods), A Lady of the Lake (who will offer handmade womens-wear and one-of-a-kind vintage fashions) and 3rd Harmony (a brand offering handcrafted jewelry made from 100% reclaimed guitar wood from Gallagher Guitars).

 

Solar Eclipse-Inspired Food & Drink at Chauhan Ale & Masala House

In honor of the once-in-a-lifetime event, Chef Maneet Chauhan’s Indian restaurant will offer a special drink and dish. The Eclipse is made with Mantra Saffron IPA—representing the sun—and a shot of St. George Coffee Liqueur—the moon. The eclipse-inspired dish is the Curry Celestial, a Molilee with a squid ink, crab Malabar parantha. For reservations and more information, call 615-242-8426.

 

Dark Side of the Moon Eclipse Viewing Party

Hard Rock Cafe will host the free Dark Side of the Moon Eclipse Viewing Party! Enjoy moonshine cocktails and indulge in house-made moon pies while listening to The Taryn Papa Band play covers of the best eclipse-themed music! This once-in-99-years event is happening on its rooftop bar.

 

Watermark Restaurant Rooftop Eclipse Viewing Party

Join Watermark on its exclusive rooftop patio where you will have a clear and safe vantage point as you watch day turn to night. This event will be available only to those guests who have purchased advance admission for $150 a person. Tickets will include a lunch buffet, beer, wine, specialty drinks and eclipse viewing glasses (tax and gratuity are included). This is a limited availability event. Solar Eclipse Watch Party at Tennessee Brew Works

LOCATION: TENNESSEE BREW WORKS FREE

Tennessee Brew Works will be hosting their own solar eclipse watch party! They'll open their doors at 11 am, and the kitchen will be open all day. A limited amount of speciality sunglasses will be available from the Adventure Science Center so you can safely look at the sun during the eclipse. Get down early so you can make sure you get a pair.

Total Eclipse at the Roof: '80s Lunch Viewing Party

Tin Roof Broadway will celebrate the total solar eclipse with an '80s lunch viewing party! You'll get free eclipse glasses with purchase of lunch while you watch the eclipse from one of its two massive VIP viewing decks on Broadway. Plus, this event will feature a great '80s band, $3 Blue Moon drink specials and a free eclipse-themed doughnut with lunch. Eclipse glasses and seating on the viewing deck are limited. First-come, first-served, but all are welcome.

 

Occulting The Sunn: Solar Eclipse Event

 

MONDAY, AUGUST 21, 10 AM - 6 PM
LOCATION: THIRD MAN RECORDS FREE

Third Man Records will host "Occulting The Sunn," an event celebrating the incredible natural event happening on Monday, August 21 with a live soundtrack that is created and controlled by the eclipse itself. The event will feature New Orleans musician and inventor Quintron's Weather Warlock, a large analog synthesizer controlled completely by the weather. Weather Warlock employs sun, rain, wind, temperature, moon and lightning to affect an E major drone chord with special sonic events occurring at sunrise and sunset. The performance will last through the partial eclipse (beginning to end) as well as the totality. Plus, this event will feature refreshments, food trucks, live tarot readings and eclipse-themed merchandise. Please note: road closure associated with this event. The event stage will be set up on 7th Avenue South directly in front of Third Man Records and will be closed from 11 am - 3 pm on Monday, August 21.

 

Moon Monday Solar Eclipse Rooftop Viewing Party

Enjoy "Moon Monday" on the George Jones Rooftop Bar in honor of the total solar eclipse! This party will feature exclusive rooftop access from 11 am - 2 pm, live music, a limited edition Nashville "no show" eclipse T-shirt, Blue Moon drink specials for guests 21+, free access to the world-famous George Jones Museum all day, eclipse glasses to ensure a safe viewing experience, contests, giveaways and much more.

LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE

The Frist Center invites you to join them in the Turner Courtyard or on its front porch (on Broadway) to observe the solar eclipse on Monday, August 21. They will also be selling the viewing glasses needed to protect your eyes. Show your glasses (whether purchased there or somewhere else) at the visitor services desk and receive free admission to the galleries on this day. The projected time of the total eclipse is 1:27 pm - 1:29 pm.

Join Nashville Public Library for its once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse viewing party in the beautiful library courtyard on the second floor. They'll be over the moon with eclipse-themed tunes, books, DVDs and, best of all, giving out 100 handmade Main-exclusive eclipse zines! Free solar shades will be available at the event; first-come, first-served.

 

Total Solar Eclipse Viewing Party with Mayor Megan Barry & Nashville Sounds

 

MONDAY, AUGUST 21, 11 AM - 2 PM
LOCATION: FIRST TENNESSEE PARK $5 VIEWING PARTY; $25 VIEWING PARTY & GAME BUNDLE

For the first time since 1918, a total solar eclipse will sweep across the United States and Nashville is the largest city in its path. This event will include music from the Nashville Symphony, science demonstrations with fun, hands-on activities from the Adventure Science Center, total solar eclipse viewing and a separate Nashville Sounds baseball game to follow at 4:05 pm. Gates to First Tennessee Park will open at 10:30 am. Mayor Megan Barry will welcome the crowd at 11 am with astronomy demonstrations and audience participation. Everybody in attendance will receive special solar glasses that will allow for safe viewing of the eclipse. Seating for the viewing party will be on a first-come, first-served basis (excluding club level and group areas). A commemorative Nashville Sounds eclipse party T-shirt will be available with the purchase of the viewing party and Sounds game $25 ticket bundle. 

 

Eclipse Champagne Brunch & Viewing Celebration

Nashville is one of the best cities to view the 2017 solar eclipse on Monday, August 21. The largest city wholly within its path, Nashville will experience the spectacular event for a duration of 1 minute and 57 seconds. To celebrate, downtown Nashville’s landmark historic hotel, Union Station, will be hosting a 2017 solar eclipse champagne brunch and viewing celebration on the hotel’s outdoor veranda. Tickets include a buffet of Southern brunch favorites, bottomless champagne for the adults, live music and specialty eclipse viewing glasses. Tickets can be purchased by calling 615-726-1001.

 

Eclipse Rooftop Party at Mellow Mushroom
