USS LST-325 is a decommissioned tank landing ship of the United States Navy. Visit this historic ship when it docks in Nashville on the Cumberland River next to Nissan Stadium Thursday, August 31 - Monday, September 4. Stand on the deck of a ship that was in the D-Day invasion and then went on to make 42 more round trips from England to France stocking the allies with fuel, ammunition and supplies. This ship is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the only operational LST left of the 1,051 built during World War II. You'll get to tour all the major areas including the tank deck, mess deck, galley area, wing deck and more. Parking is available in Lot R at Nissan Stadium for $5.

 

Live on the Green: Weekend Festival Finale

LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

Enjoy live music outside in Public Square, located in front of the Metro Courthouse! This year's Live on the Green is capped with a three-day festival finale with two stages showcasing 25 artists throughout the weekend. Headliners include John Butler Trio on Thursday, August 31, Sheryl Crow on Friday, September 1 and Future Islands on Saturday, September 2. Click here for the complete schedule of performers. Blankets, folding chairs, strollers and water bottles are welcome at this event. $5 parking is available in the Metro Courthouse parking garage, located directly below the park. Or, take advantage of free bicycle parking.‚Äč This event is free, but VIP lounge passes ($80) and VIP backstage passes ($150) are available for an upgraded experience on select days.

- James Robertson Parkway (3rd Avenue North to Courtyard parking entrance): One lane (eastbound traffic) will be closed from 9 am - midnight Thursday, August 31 - Saturday, September 2, with the exception of 4 pm - 6 pm on Thursday and Friday for rush hour
- Union Street (3rd Avenue North to 1st Avenue North): Two lanes (westbound traffic) will be closed from 6 pm on Wednesday, August 30 - 6 am on Sunday, September 3
- Woodland Street Bridge (Union Street to Nissan Stadium parking lots): One lane (westbound traffic) will be closed from 5 pm - 11 pm on Thursday, August 31, 4 pm - 11 pm on Friday, September 1 and noon - 11 pm on Saturday, September 2

Back to the Bridge Mixer

The annual John A. Merritt Classic will happen on Saturday, September 30 when Tennessee State University takes on Eastern Illinois University. Tennessee State University is getting a head start on the festivities with its Back to the Bridge Mixer on Friday, September 1! The eighth annual Back to the Bridge Mixer will transform the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge into a party with live music, dancing, and food and drink vendors.

 

First Saturday Art Crawl

Art galleries throughout downtown host receptions and art openings every month. Most galleries serve free wine and other refreshments. Enjoy live music by Sonja Hopkins on the performance platform on 5th Avenue North and by the Nashville Teen Music Project on the Fifth Third Plaza. Street activities include Peggy, Parnassus on Wheels and the return of Tank 615's Tank Chicken. See this month's gallery map. Race 13.1

 

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 7:30 AM
LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL MALL 5K: $35; 10K: $45; HALF MARATHON: $90

Race 13.1 is returning to Music City for the third annual half marathon, 10K and 5K! The race will start and finish at Bicentennial Mall. The mostly flat course will take runners on a route that will feature the historic Sulphur Dell area, Nashville Farmers' Market, First Tennessee Park, the picturesque Cumberland River Greenway and more. Plus, participants can enjoy a post-race party with music and food!

Please note: road closures associated with this event for Saturday, September 2:

- 6th Avenue North will be closed from as early as 5:30 am until as late as 10:30 am
- 7th Avenue North will be closed from as early as 6:45 am until as late as 8 am
- Harrison Street (7th Avenue North to 3rd Avenue North) will be closed from as early as 6:45 am until as late as 10 am

Grand Master Fiddler Championship

 

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 9:45 AM - 5 PM
LOCATION: COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM MUSEUM ADMISSION REQUIRED

The Grand Master Fiddler Championship is the premier contest of its kind, with the aim of recognizing the top fiddler in North America. It was held originally in conjunction with CMA’s Fan Fair, from 1972 to 1997, and then was revived in 2005 to coincide with IBMA’s annual World of Bluegrass festival. In 2013, the contest moved to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Past winners such as Mark O’Connor and Jimmy Mattingly went on to hugely successful recording and touring careers. Competition rounds will take place on both Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3, interspersed with performances by renowned musicians. The winning Grand Master Fiddler Champion will return in 2018 to perform on the Grand Ole Opry and serve as a contest judge.

 

Old School BBQ Festival

Scenic Riverfront Park is the location for the 4th annual Old School BBQ Festival on Sunday, September 3. Part of the Labor Day weekend celebration in Music City, this festival promises to be another fun event along the Cumberland River. Bring your lawn chair, an appetite and your dancing shoes as you enjoy all the great entertainment and food the Old School BBQ Festival has to offer. Please note: road closure associated with this event. Riverfront Park and the northbound lane of 1st Avenue adjacent to Riverfront Park will be closed from 5 am on Sunday, September 3 until 1 am on Monday, September 4.

 

3rd Annual Empanada Tasting Event

LOCATION: TPAC - TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER $20 IN ADVANCE; $35 WALK-UP ENTRY DAY OF EVENT

The Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) is proud to host the Tennessee Latin American Chamber of Commerce’s 3rd Empanada Tasting Event on Wednesday, September 6. Explore the flavor, culture and rich diversity of our region’s thriving Latin American communities, while supporting Latino-owned businesses and enjoying a delicious variety of empanadas. With each reservation, you get five empanadas and a soft drink or water. Additional snacks and drinks will be available from TPAC concessions. Hosted in the lobby of TPAC’s Andrew Jackson Hall, this expanded celebration of Latino culture also will feature lively music, networking and a chance to vote for your favorite empanada.
