Events This Week
"Part of the Plan" is a new American musical—a captivating story scored with the music and lyrics of the late, celebrated singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg. Produced by K-Squared Entertainment in association with the Nashville-based nonprofit Tennessee Performing Arts Center, this show marks TPAC's first original production. Directed by Tony-nominated Lynne Taylor-Corbett, with book by Kate Atkinson and Karen Harris, this developmental production follows the lives of an adopted boy and the teenaged girl of privilege who was forced to give him up. "Part of the Plan" takes audiences through the post-World War II boom times, the social and sexual revolution of the 1960s and the political upheaval of the 1970s, while exploring the theme that everything in life happens for a reason. Seamlessly interweaving the iconic music of an authentic American Troubadour, "Part of the Plan" brings Fogelberg's music to a new generation who may not know his work, to those who may have forgotten his artistry and to the many die-hard fans who long to hear his music in all forms.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14 - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, THURSDAY: 7 PM; FRIDAY & SATURDAY: 8 PM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $22 - $145
Attend the Nashville Symphony's Classical Series opening weekend, a can’t-miss event featuring the Nashville Symphony, Maestro Guerrero, André Watts and a classical composition by Nashville-based rock 'n' roll legend Kip Winger. Inspired by a Russian folktale, "The Firebird" was Russian composer Stravinsky's breakthrough piece. Originally a ballet commissioned by the Ballets Russes in 1910, the work catapulted him to stardom. A Nashville Symphony fan-favorite and one of classical music’s biggest stars, Watts returns to perform MacDowell’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Winger is a member of the rock band Winger—and an accomplished classical musician and composer. His Grammy-nominated "Conversations with Nijinsky" reached the top of the Billboard Classical charts. Winger’s piece ties in thematically with this program: the Nijinsky referenced in the title collaborated with both Stravinsky and Debussy, choreographing the latter's "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun."

Naff, the theater manager who helmed the Auditorium for more than 40 years and famously booked the Grand Ole Opry there.
