New coffee shop - Kona Espresso Bar!
1201 Demonbreun Street. This new coffee shop in The Gulch serves up espresso, macchiato, cortado, tea, smoothies, and a few items for breakfast and lunch. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 7 am - 3 pm.
 

New wine and liquor store: Cork and Barrel Wine and Spirits!
68 Hermitage Avenue. 615-586-8178. This new liquor store is located in Rolling Mill Hill. Hours of operation are Monday - Saturday, 11 am - 11 pm.
 

New apparel and shoe store: Rooted!
62 Hermitage Avenue. 615-915-0866. This new men's apparel and shoe store is located in Rolling Mill Hill. Hours of operation are Monday - Sunday, 10:30 am - 7 pm.
 

New wine and liquor store: SoBro Wine & Spirits

Enjoy a gathering of up to 20 local food trucks parked along Deaderick Street between 4th Avenue North and 5th Avenue North! Please note: road closure associated with this event. Deaderick Street (4th Avenue North to 5th Avenue North) will be closed from 10 am - 2:30 pm on Thursday, January 11.

 

Blind Tasting Workshop

You don’t need to be a wine expert to be able to blind taste. If you want to start developing your blind tasting skills or put your wine knowledge to the test, this fun and engaging class is a great starting point. City Winery’s resident sommelier will walk you through a deductive tasting technique step-by-step to help you become a much better taster, regardless of your level of expertise—whether it be novice or skilled expert.

 

The Earth: An HD Odyssey

It's the second installment in Nashville Symphony's spectacular HD Odyssey series! Watch stunning images of earth taken from NASA missions as the orchestra performs Strauss' epic "Also sprach Zarathustra." This music made an unforgettable appearance in "2001: A Space Odyssey," and this is your chance to hear it performed live. As an added bonus, John Adams’ electrifying "Short Ride in a Fast Machine" will accompany images of a space shuttle launch. Pianist Ingrid Fliter will join the orchestra for Chopin’s bold and beautiful First Piano Concerto.

 

Opry at the Ryman: Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Dailey & Vincent & More

Enjoy a special performance when The Grand Ole Opry is presented at the historic Ryman Auditorium. Unlike a typical concert, the Opry presents eight or more artists at each show giving the audience a sample of each artist's musical style. This show will feature Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Dailey & Vincent, Crystal Gayle, Parmalee, Runaway June, Bill Anderson, Riders in the Sky, Mike Snider, Jeannie Seely and more.

LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER FREE

Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2018, this free annual concert honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Joined by an adult chorus and a youth chorus drawn from the Nashville community, the orchestra will perform an inspiring selection of music honoring the triumphs of the civil rights movement. Nashville Public Library will provide visuals from its Civil Rights Collection, projected on a large screen above the stage. Individual tickets (up to 4 per order) will be available to the public beginning Wednesday, January 10 at 10 am.

 

Nashville Originals' Restaurant Week

A biannual event sponsored by Nashville Originals, Restaurant Week is a great way to enjoy Nashville's unique local dining establishments. Lunch & Learn: The Tennessee Centennial Exposition

 

THURSDAY, JANUARY 18, 12:15 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

In conjunction with an exhibit at the Parthenon Museum in Nashville on the Tennessee Centennial Exposition, the Tennessee State Museum will welcome attorney David Ewing, a well-known local historian, collector and blogger, for a free lunch and learn presentation on Thursday, January 18. Recognized for his social media brand, "The Nashville I Wish I Knew," and his extensive collection and research, Ewing is well respected for his passion and knowledge of local history. On view at the Parthenon through the end of January, "Day at the Fair" is a celebration of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition and includes artifacts chosen from the David Ewing collection. He’ll discuss those artifacts and the significance of the Exposition.

 

Duck Dinner

 

THURSDAY, JANUARY 18, 7 PM - 10 PM
LOCATION: TANSUO $84

Tickets are available for the contemporary Chinese restaurant’s second Duck Dinner. Tansuo is teaming up with Mantra Artisan Ales for an inventive meal of duck dishes and beer pairings. Coinciding with National Peking Duck Day, the dinner will take place on the upper mezzanine at 7 pm. A limited number of tickets are available for $84.
