New restaurant - Sunda
592 12th Avenue South. 615-610-7566. This new restaurant in the Gulch specializes in Asian fusion cuisine and cocktails. The menu is inspired by countries like China, Japan and Thailand and includes sushi, sashimi, nigiri, miso-glazed black cod, lemongrass beef lollipops and much more. The restaurant plans to host sake tastings and sushi rolling classes.

Lunch & Learn: The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 12:15 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

Ms. Linda Wynn, assistant director at the Tennessee Historical Commission, and a prominent scholar on Civil Rights history, will present the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The talk coincides with the 50th Anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination on April 4, 1968, at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. The presentation will reflect on Dr. King’s accomplishments and the impact he has made on society. Whether you bring your lunch in a brown bag or grab a sandwich from a nearby shop, bring it to the museum and enjoy an interesting talk while you eat. Each event will last about 30 minutes and includes a Q&A session.

 

Spring Craft Beer Dinner

THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE BREW WORKS $100

Tennessee Brew Works will be hosting their annual Spring Craft Beer Dinner on Thursday, April 19 from 6 pm to 9 pm. The dinner will feature a 10-course pairing by chef Jay Mitchell and brewer Matt Simpson. Tickets are $100 per person and include a 32-ounce growler-size can of Simpson’s limited-release beer that will be unveiled at the event.

 

Battle of the Burger

THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
LOCATION: THE GULCH $20

Who will be deemed the 2018 Burger Champion? Watch your favorite restaurants battle it out in the live burger competition on Pine Street in The Gulch. Tickets include tasting each of the featured burgers, meeting some of Nashville's top chefs and a cocktail. Street Eats

THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 11 AM - 2 PM

Enjoy a gathering of up to 20 local food trucks parked along Deaderick Street between 4th Avenue North and 5th Avenue North every Tuesday and Thursday! The trucks serve lunch from 11 am to 2 pm. This event is now called Street Eats and was formerly called Street Food Thursdays. The food truck line-up is usually posted herePlease note: road closure associated with this event. Deaderick Street (4th Avenue North to 5th Avenue North) will be closed from 10 am - 2:30 pm on the day of the event.

 

Over the Edge Nashville

FRIDAY, APRIL 20, 9 AM - 5 PM
LOCATION: BANK OF AMERICA $50 REGISTRATION FEE; FREE FOR SPECTATORS

Participants, known as "edgers," register and then fundraise in order to earn the chance to rappel down the side of the 291-foot-tall Bank of America Plaza Nashville. The first 70 participants reaching the $1,000 milestone will earn a slot on the ropes on Friday, April 20. This is a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee.

 

Stanley Cup Playoffs: Nashville Predators vs. Colorado Avalanche

FRIDAY, APRIL 20, 8:30 PM
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA $150 - $450

Smashville fans will get to cheer on the Nashville Predators during the Stanley Cup Playoff Game 5 vs. Colorado Avalanche Friday, April 20. Please note: single-game tickets are no longer available. Three hours prior to puck drop, the Plaza Party, presented by Lee Company, will feature the Smash Car, inflatables, face painters, a Preds merchandise tent and a live DJ. Two and a half hours before puck drop, Fifth Third cardholders with valid game tickets may enter the arena through the Nissan SoBro doors to access Barrel House. All fans may enter Bridgestone Arena at all doors two hours before the match begins. Plus, be in your seat 15 minutes before the puck drops to catch a special pregame show and receive a gold rally towel for the game. The game will also be broadcast on FSTN regional and NBCSN nation as well as 102.5 The Game.

 

Preds Party in the Park

FRIDAY, APRIL 20, PARTY STARTS AT 5:30 PM; GAME STARTS AT 8:30 PM
LOCATION: WALK OF FAME PARK

Join fellow Smashvillians to cheer on the Nashville Predators at the Preds Party in the Park outdoor viewing parties. Join the fun on Friday, April 20 for Game 5 of the 2018 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Viewing parties for home games for Round 1 will be hosted at Music City Walk of Fame Park, located across Fifth Avenue South from Bridgestone Arena. The parties are free and open to the public. Walk of Fame Park will activate three hours prior to game time. A large video screen will show the game feed. DJs will be on hand to entertain fans. Food trucks and hot dog vendors will be on site, and water, sodas, beer and team merchandise will be on sale. Attendees are invited to bring blankets and chairs.

 

Free Day at the Frist

FRIDAY, APRIL 20, 10 AM - 9 PM
LOCATION: FRIST ART MUSEUM FREE

The exhibition Rome: City and Empire will close to the public at Frist Art Museum this Saturday, April 21, end of day. This is a precautionary measure due to the concern about the potential for harm to these antiquities that might result from vibrations and excavations from construction in the vicinity of the museum. We are grateful that the British Museum sent Rome: City and Empire to us so that tens of thousands of visitors have had the chance to see it over the two months it has been in Nashville. Admission will be free for all visitors this Friday, April 20.

 

March for Babies

SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 9 AM
LOCATION: NISSAN STADIUM MARCH FOR BABIES WALK: FREE; SUPERHERO SPRINT: $10 - $20

The 2018 March for Babies will highlight the strength of families affected by premature birth, birth defects and the loss of a child, celebrate the strides made towards accomplishing the mission and applaud the fundraising efforts of donors. On April 21, 2018, over 7,000 individuals will come together at the Nissan Stadium Riverfront to support the March of Dimes. The walk (the oldest fundraising walk in the nation!) is free, but participants are encouraged to raise a minimum of $100 to earn an event T-shirt. Plus, the Superhero Sprint (a kids' fun run) will take place before the walk at 8:30 am. Stick around after the walk/run for festivities until 10 am.

 

Walk for Wishes

SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 9 AM
LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL MALL FREE

Bringing hope, strength and joy to children battling life-threatening medical conditions in the community is as easy as lacing up your walking shoes. Join for Walk for Wishes 2018 on Saturday, April 21. This walk is where kids, volunteers and community members can come together in support of the Make-A-Wish mission. This is a family-friendly, dog-friendly, 1-mile walk. The event will kick off at 9 am. 

 

Brunch & Vote Early Voting Party

SATURDAY, APRIL 21, NOON - 4 PM
LOCATION: THE LISTENING ROOM CAFE

Come enjoy brunch and a drink at The Listening Room Cafe on April 21 from noon to 4 pm. Live Here Vote Here will be on hand to lead groups on a quick stroll to and from the Fulton Campus - just a 5 minute walk - to early vote in Davidson County. Bring a friend and vote together. Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit…A Night of Spirituals

Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit…A Night of Spirituals will feature the Nashville First Baptist and First Baptist Capitol Hill Choirs singing traditional spirituals and gospel songs. It will be a wonderful evening of worship, praise, and celebration which will thrill the heart of all ages. "I Hear a Voice A-Prayin'", "Ride Up in The Chariot", "Soon-Ah will Be Done", "Ain’t Got time to Die", and "Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit" are just a few of the selections you will enjoy. Plus, very special guests, Joseph and Renay Joubert, will perform as well.

This is a new lunch program series at Spark: Lipscomb’s Idea Center's recently opened downtown location! Have lunch and enjoy networking and interesting conversation. The New to Nashville lunch series is an hour-long free lunch and conversation with leaders in Nashville about the history, trends and issues facing our city.  The series continues on Wednesday, April 25 with "The Other Side of 'It City': Homelessness & Housing" featuring Joyce Lavery (CEO Safe Haven Family Shelter) and Judy Tackett (Director of Homelessness Commission).

Downtown Grocery Stores

Downtown Nashville has two grocery stores! H.G. Hill Urban Market (415 Church Street) features produce, a selection of meats, bakery items, groceries, prepared food and more. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 6:30 am - 9 pm and Saturday - Sunday, 8 am - 9 pm. The Turnip Truck Urban Fare (321 12th Avenue S.) offers organic produce, fresh meats, prepared foods and additional groceries. Hours of operation are Monday - Saturday, 7:30 am - 9 pm and Sunday, 9 am - 8 pm.
