Adult Recess

THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 11 AM - 2 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

Take a break and get outside this Thursday for Adult Recess at Public Square! Bring your lunch from your favorite downtown restaurant or from one of the Street Eats food trucks on Deaderick. There will be plenty of tables and chairs located in the shade. Frozen treats and bottles of water will be for sale for $1. Join the fun! Enjoy a game or two of ping pong, foosball, giant lawn games like Jenga, Connect 4, chess, checkers, dominoes, and many more. Feel like a kid again on your lunch break! {NOTE: for the remainder of August this event will only be held on Tuesdays due to Live on the Green.}

 

Movie Night at Public Square

THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, FUN STARTS AT 6 PM; MOVIE AT SUNDOWN
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

Join us for the last Movie Night at Public Square this summer! Remember the Titans will be on the big screen at sundown. Wear your Tennessee Titans gear as we get ready for the NFL preseason, and feel free to bring: picnic blankets, folding chairs, dinner and/or snacks, and dogs on leashes. The fun starts at 6 pm with giant lawn games, food trucks, frozen treats and popcorn for sale for $1, and more! The movie will start at sundown. Parking is only $5 in the Metro Courthouse Garage. The food trucks for Thursday, August 2 are 313 Coney and Roscoe's BBQ.  
 

 

Election Day Show

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 8 PM
LOCATION: MERCY LOUNGE FREE

Please Vote Nashville and #iVoted will host their first ever local voter turnout Election Day show on Thursday, August 2 at the Mercy Lounge. Entry is granted by showing a photo of oneself outside of their local polling place. The concept is also happening nationwide in over 50 venues on the night of the federal Election Day on November 6. Performers for the August 2 concert include Robyn Hitchcock, Pat Sansone (of Wilco and The Autumn Defense), Tristen, Joe Pisapia, Lauren Strange and New Man. 

 

Music with a Mission Concert Series

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 11:30 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE CITY CENTER FREE

Music with a Mission is a free, weekly concert hosted by Alliance Partners LLC HSP on Nashville City Center’s outdoor plaza. Every Thursday, downtown employees, residents and visitors are invited to enjoy free food from local vendors while listening to live music from up-and-coming local artists. This week's featured artist is Joseph Bradshaw. Joseph recently relocated to Nashville from California and has already played at The Ryman, The Bluebird Cafe, and Musicians Corner. The performance starts at noon.

 

Avant-Garage Sale

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 2 - WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15
LOCATION: THE ARTS COMPANY

The Avant-Garage Sale is the annual destination for visitors to explore the gallery vaults through a boutique and affordable arts market, featuring a Collectors Choice Area, including a collection of 10 original folk art wood sculptures by O.L. Samuels, a selection of iconic rock and roll posters, and other original rarely-seen artwork from private collections. Vintage pieces are always a primary part of the sale, featuring tables, a wooden file drawer and printer’s cabinet, vinyl albums, CD's, art books, miscellaneous frames, along with a variety of other small and large items. Even the most avid connoisseurs will be surprised by some of the items in this year's collection.

 

27 Live at L27 Rooftop Lounge

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 7 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: L27 ROOFTOP LOUNGE FREE

Located on the rooftop of The Westin Nashville, L27 is hosting a live music concert series, 27 Live, to occur the first Thursday of the month from May through October. Featuring one DJ and one musical artist performing at each event, the evening will begin at 7 pm. The series is free to the public, but space is limited. Whissell will perform on Thursday, August 2.

Dan and Phil World Tour 2018 Interactive Introverts

Of Sound Mind and Dead Body

Join the Murder Mystery Company live in Nashville for an immersive mystery experience full of twists and turns. A murder will occur and your sleuthing skills will be put to the test as you work to determine whodunnit. You'll have the chance to examine clues and mingle with suspects to deduce the culprit as you dine on a three-course meal. You might even become a suspect yourself! 

 

First Saturday Art Crawl

 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 4, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: 5TH AVENUE OF THE ARTS FREE

Celebrate the 12th anniversary of the First Saturday Art Crawl on August 4. Art galleries throughout downtown host receptions and art openings every month. Most galleries serve free wine and other refreshments. See this month's gallery map. Enjoy live music by Tramaine Arte'mis and Tim Gartland. Participate at the Plaza Art Community Art Station located on the platform near The Arts Company on 5th. Plaza Art will host a "paint-by-number" cityscape of Nashville. Art crawl attendees and passersby are invited to paint a portion of the canvas as they travel from gallery to gallery. Once the painting is complete, you can go see the finished work on display at Plaza Art, which is located at 633 Middleton St. A silent disco and cakewalk will be held in front of Woolworth on 5th. Participate by putting on headphones and enjoying the DJ's tunes, play musical chairs and you could win a cake to celebrate the crawl's 12th birthday. Two Gray Line Art Crawl Downtown Trolleys will provide complimentary shuttle service along the route from 6 pm - 10 pm. You can purchase parking in advance here. Plus, be a part of the movement and post your pictures under these amazing walls: 144 5th Avenue North, 530 Church Street and 213 3rd Avenue North.  

Please note: road closure associated with this event. The southbound lane on 5th Avenue North (Church Street to Union Street) will be closed beginning as early as 3 pm and ending as late as 10 pm on Saturday, August 4.

National Work Like a Dog Day

LOCATION: MAKEREADY LIBATIONS & LIBERATION

National Work Like a Dog Day is on August 5, and Makeready Libations & Liberation will honor working men and women who take pride in their craft and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. After a long week of working like a dog, what do people want to do? Drink like a fish, of course! Drinks will be $5 all day including all specialty drinks on Makeready's menu, beer, and wine. Take your collars off to have a drink or two and play board and card games with friends. Guests will also have a chance to enter a raffle to win a dinner for two. Makeready’s menu features an elevated tavern concept inspired by the original shift workers who spent their days toiling in Printer’s Alley, located just outside the restaurant.

Loud Jamz brings together dozens of Nashville musicians and singers to perform a wide range of cover songs in multiple genres. From the classic rock of the 70s to bands making the hits today, it's like hitting shuffle on your playlist, only it's all played live! Some of these musicians you've seen on tour with the biggest names in country music. For one night, they jam together playing songs not on their usual setlists. Anything can happen when you put this much talent on one stage with a song list designed to rock your world. Join in for a night of great music and exceptional musicianship.

2nd Avenue Art Wall

Check out the new art wall located at 185 2nd Avenue North! The 2nd Avenue Art Wall features female abstract artists based in Nashville. Artists include Jade CarterCassidy ColeTess ErlenbornBeth InglishElise KendrickErin Elise LaughlinEmily Leonard, and Catron Wallace. The art chosen for the 2nd Avenue Art Wall follows a theme of positivity, playfulness and cheerfulness. The 2nd Avenue Art Wall is a partnership between AT&T, Nashville Downtown Partnership, Metro Arts Commission, The DISTRICT and The Studio 208.
