New ice cream shop: Legendairy Milkshake Bar!
171 3rd Avenue North. This new milkshake bar is located next door to Demos' on 3rd Avenue North. They serve handcrafted milkshakes and ice cream by the scoop. Hours of operation are Tuesday - Sunday, 11 am - 11 pm.
 

New cafe: Fresh Pick Market & Cafe!
201 5th Avenue South. 615-401-1395. The Fresh Pick Market & Café is located inside the Music City Center and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner items along with grab-and-go snack and drink options and travel necessities. The cafe also serves local beer and coffee and has an outdoor terrace with fire pits and seating. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 6 am - 8 pm; Saturday, 7 am - 8 pm; and Sunday, 7 am - 6 pm.

Avant-Garage Sale

THROUGH WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15
LOCATION: THE ARTS COMPANY

The Avant-Garage Sale is the annual destination for visitors to explore the gallery vaults through a boutique and affordable arts market, featuring a Collectors Choice Area, including a collection of 10 original folk art wood sculptures by O.L. Samuels, a selection of iconic rock and roll posters, and other original rarely-seen artwork from private collections. Vintage pieces are always a primary part of the sale, featuring tables, a wooden file drawer and printer’s cabinet, vinyl albums, CD's, art books, miscellaneous frames, along with a variety of other small and large items. Even the most avid connoisseurs will be surprised by some of the items in this year's collection.

 

Music with a Mission

THURSDAY, AUGUST 9, 11:30 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE CITY CENTER FREE

Music with a Mission is a free, weekly concert hosted by Alliance Partners LLC HSP on Nashville City Center’s outdoor plaza. Every Thursday, downtown employees, residents and visitors are invited to enjoy free food from local vendors while listening to live music from up-and-coming local artists. Preston James will perform on August 9. This 17-year-old is a vocalist and guitarist and has been seen on The Voice and American Idol. He’s played The Ryman and is a regular at the Wildhorse Saloon, ACME Feed & Seed, and other local venues. The performance starts at noon.

 

10th Annual Live on the Green: Dispatch

THURSDAY, AUGUST 9, 6 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

Enjoy live music outside in Public Square, located in front of the Metro Courthouse! This tenth annual concert series brings local and national artists to the stage. Blankets, folding chairs, strollers and water bottles are welcome at this free four-week concert series. The lineup for Thursday, August 9 includes Roscoe & Etta, Mt. Joy, The Wood Brothers, and Dispatch as the headliner. $10 parking is available in the Metro Courthouse parking garage, located directly below the park, and in Nissan Stadium Lot E and Lot F for $5. Or, take advantage of free bicycle parking.‚Äč

- James Robertson Parkway (3rd Avenue North to Courthouse parking entrance): one lane (eastbound traffic) will be closed from 9 am - midnight, with the exception of 4 pm - 6 pm for rush hour on Thursday, August 9
- Union Street (3rd Avenue North to 1st Avenue North): two lanes (westbound traffic) will be closed from 9 am - 11 pm on Thursday, August 9
- Woodland Street Bridge (Union Street to Nissan Stadium parking lots): total street closure from 6 pm - 11 pm on Thursday, August 9
- Deaderick Street (3rd Avenue North to 5th Avenue North) will be closed from 2 pm - 11 pm on Thursday, August 9
- 3rd Avenue North (James Robertson Parkway to Union Street) will be closed from 9 am - 11 pm on Thursday, August 9

 

Big Machine After Dark DJ Night

THURSDAY, AUGUST 9, 7 PM - MIDNIGHT
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA FREE

Big Machine Vodka and Bridgestone Arena will host an After Dark event on the plaza at the arena. The party features nonstop beats by DJ AJ Kang, Big Machine Vodka drink specials and more.

The Hermitage Hotel's Live Music Summer Series

LOCATION: THE HERMITAGE HOTEL FREE

Watch the Hermitage Hotel's Grand Lobby come alive every Friday this summer with their Music in the Lobby Summer Series! Attend on Fridays from 4 pm - 6 pm through August 31 for free live, local music. Enjoy a delicious refreshment as you get a taste of Nashville's vibrant music scene.

 

Black 13 Tattoo's 10th Anniversary Party

SATURDAY, AUGUST 11, 9 PM
LOCATION: MERCY LOUNGE FREE

Black 13 Tattoo Parlor is hosting a free 10 Year Anniversary Party on Saturday, August 11 at Mercy Lounge at 8 pm. The party will feature live music from The Daybreaks, Airpark, Bones Owens, and DJ Wick-It. There will also be a photo booth, free temporary tattoos, and live art. This event is 18 and over.

 

2018 John Egerton Prize Awards Ceremony

SUNDAY, AUGUST 12, 4 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

The awards ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Nashville Public Library Auditorium at 4 pm. Featured speakers include Alice Randall, author and writer-in-residence at Vanderbilt University, and Chuck Reece, founder and editor of The Bitter Southerner. The Southern Foodways Alliance will screen original films about the honorees before bestowing each Egerton Prize. One prize will be awarded to Fresh Future Farm, an urban farm and grocery market serving the local community in North Charleston, South Carolina. The second prize will be awarded to The Neighbor's Field in Comer, Georgia, a project of Jubilee Partners that assists former refugees independently practicing sustainable agriculture. A ticketed reception will follow from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm in the Main Gallery at 21c Museum Hotel Nashville, a short walk from the library. Bites from the Gray & Dudley culinary team and a local guest chef will be inspired by Egerton-family recipes.

Dust off the cowboy boots -- Rare Bird is going country western! Every second Sunday of the month, DJ Dadrock spins classic country favorites. Enjoy Western Grace Brandy drink specials including the sinful Watermelon Punch.

 

Brown in the South Dinner

MONDAY, AUGUST 13, 6:30 PM - 10 PM
LOCATION: CHAUHAN ALE & MASALA HOUSE $125

Brown in the South is heating up Nashville with a wave of elite chefs aiming to give the region a taste of an Indian summer. To celebrate the diverse cultures that continue to expand the narrative for the standard of "Southern", this multi-course family style dinner will highlight vegetables from the late summer while showcasing the culinary heritage and cooking styles of the celebrated chefs' South Asian culture. The final course will be followed with an after party and Bollywood dancing.

 

Adult Recess

TUESDAY, AUGUST 14, 11 AM - 2 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

Take a break and get outside this summer for Adult Recess at Public Square! Grab lunch from the food trucks on site (Mac Attack and Roscoe's Smoked BBQ) in Public Square or from your favorite nearby restaurant. There will be plenty of tables and chairs located in the shade. Frozen treats and bottles of water will be for sale for $1. Join the fun! Enjoy a game or two of ping pong, foosball, giant lawn games like Jenga, Connect 4, chess, checkers, dominoes, and many more. Feel like a kid again on your lunch break!

 

Nashville Lifestyles Women in Business

TUESDAY, AUGUST 14, 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
LOCATION: 2/22 $60 - $65

Nashville Lifestyles hosts its annual luncheon recognizing women in the local community who are the best in their fields. The 2018 panel of honorees will be led by keynote speakers Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, of The Home Edit. This luncheon will also feature a style show from Dillard's, lunch, wine and panel discussion. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Dress for Success.

 

Road Closures

 

Broadway Utility Work

You may have noticed additional lane closures on Broadway between 5th and 6th Avenues across from Bridgestone Arena. This is to expand sewer / storm water systems and gas and electrical infrastructure to meet the growing needs of downtown. Utility work is ongoing 24 hours a day and closed lanes will open back up in mid-September when the work is expected to be complete.

 

Live on the Green Road Closures

Live on the Green begins on Thursday, August 9 and returns on Thursday nights through August. NOTE: the road closures below will be in place on the following Thursdays: August 9, 16 and 23. The closures during the Labor Day weekend part of the series (Thursday, August 30 - Saturday, September 1) differ slightly and will be posted closer to those dates.
   
- James Robertson Parkway (3rd Avenue North to Courthouse parking entrance): one lane (eastbound traffic) will be closed from 9 am - midnight, with the exception of 4 pm - 6 pm for rush hour
- Union Street (3rd Avenue North to 1st Avenue North): two lanes (westbound traffic) will be closed from 9 am - 11 pm
