High Tides & Southern Skies Fall Tasting Dinner

HOWLoween Yappy Hour

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 4 PM - 6 PM
LOCATION: UNION STATION FREE

Union Station Hotel is hosting a HOWLoween Yappy Hour on Thursday, October 18 from 4 pm - 6 pm. The free, pet-friendly event will feature specials from on-site bar and restaurant Carter’s, a photo booth from Nashville Smile Bar, doggie trick-or-treats from Baxter Bailey & Company, live music from Riffs on the Rails performer Carrie Welling and a canine costume contest, so be sure to dress your pups in their spookiest outfits for the chance to win special prizes.

 

Opry Country Classics

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 7 PM

An exciting celebration of the songs that made Music City, Opry Country Classics features a celebrity host sharing great stories and songs. They don’t make songs any more popular than those you’ll enjoy during Opry Country Classics, and there’s no better place to experience them than at Ryman Auditorium. This performance will feature Larry Gatlin, Maggie Rose, Craig Campbell, Leroy Van Dyke, and Spotlight Artist Bobby Bare.

 

Mr. Temple and the Tigerbelles

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

Nashville Public Library will host the screening of “Mr. Temple and the Tigerbelles” at 6:30 pm on Thursday, October 18. The event is free and open to all. Academy Award Nominee and Emmy-winning filmmaker, Tom Neff, wrote and directed the forty-minute documentary about Tennessee State University track and field coach, Ed Temple, and the Tigerbelles, 40 African American female athletes who broke the color barrier at the Olympics. Patrons can also see memorabilia from Temple and the Tigerbelles on loan to NPL by Temple’s daughter, Edwina Temple. Neff will lead a brief panel after the screening. Wyomia Tyus, a former Tigerbelle and the first person to win a gold medal for the same event in consecutive Olympics (1964 and 1968), will sign her book at the event.

 

Gulch Night Market

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 5 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: THE GULCH FREE

Head to the Gulch for a fun fall evening filled with an exciting mix of local artisans, food and drink vendors and live music. Gulch Night Market will take place at 11th Ave S. & Laurel St in the parking lot in front of one of the colorful murals. This is a pet friendly event and is free to attend.

 

Street Eats

Enjoy a gathering of up to 20 local food trucks parked along Deaderick Street between 4th Avenue North and 5th Avenue North every Thursday! The trucks serve lunch from 11 am to 2 pm. The food truck line-up is usually posted herePlease note: road closure associated with this event. Deaderick Street (from 4th Avenue to 5th Avenue) will be closed from 10 am - 2:30 pm on the day of the event.

 

Seven Deadly Sins

Back by popular demand, Christopher Stuart’s exhilarating collaboration with Nashville singer-songwriter collective Ten Out of Tenn exposes the most sinister side of society as the protagonist confronts his demons in a performance that will haunt viewers long after the curtain falls. Challenging the viewer’s perceptions of ballet, Jennifer Archibald’s Superstitions blends the precision, technicality and athleticism of tradition with contemporary dance styles as Christina Spinei’s composition mirrors the convergence of past and present.

 

Storytime with Tennessee’s First Lady

Join Crissy Haslam, the First Lady of Tennessee, as she helps us kick off the state museum's brand new series of Storytime events. Designed for children 3 to 6 years old, all of their Storytime events will include a book reading with craft activities. RSVP for this free event.

 

Night Market

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19, 5 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET FREE

Relax and unwind at Night Market, a monthly event that takes place on the third Friday at the Nashville Farmers' Market both outside under the sheds as well as inside the Market House. Enjoy an evening of shopping, sipping, dancing to live music, kids' activities and eating—all with local food artisans, artists, crafters, flea merchants, farmers and food trucks. Everyone is welcome, including dogs on leashes. Overflow parking is available after 5 pm in the state parking lots.

Creatives' Day

Creatives' Day is a free family-friendly arts celebration held at the Nashville Public Library. The 3rd annual celebration is hosted by the Creatives' Day Organization of Nashville and in partnership with Downtown Nashville Public Library on Saturday, October 20 from 11 am - 2 pm.

 

TSU Homecoming

Head to Nissan Stadium on Saturday, October 20 for Tennessee State University's 2018 Homecoming game against Tennessee Tech. Kickoff is at 4:30 pm and tickets start at $20.

 

2018 Young Tennessee Artists

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20
LOCATION: FRIST ART MUSEUM

The Frist Art Museum’s seventh biennial Young Tennessee Artists exhibition showcases some of the finest two-dimensional artwork by high school students across the state. Students in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) studio art programs during the 2017–18 academic year were invited to submit their work to this exhibition. After reviewing more than eight hundred entries from students in home-school programs as well as private and public schools, the jurors selected works by twenty-seven students. This exhibition illuminates their skillful synthesis of form, technique, and content. The array and quality of work demonstrate the growing sophistication and diversity of experiences within the AP and IB studio art programs across Tennessee. This exhibition will remain open through March 17, 2019.

 

Nashville Zombie Walk

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21, 3 PM - 5 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

It's the return of this free Nashville Halloween tradition! Be a part of the undead horde shambling through three of Nashville's trendy districts. In place of paying a fee to participate in the walk, the event seeks non-perishable food items to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Bring what non-perishable food you can to the starting point for drop off before the walk. Just before the walk, everyone will shoot an overhead horde photo, so be ready to strike a scary pose. The walk begins in Public Square and continues through town to Rock Bottom, where the after party will be held. Registration is required.

 

Family Festival Day

La vie est belle! Celebrate the joie de vivre of Paris at the Frist. In 1900, the City of Light hosted L’Exposition universelle, a world’s fair, to usher in the new century with innovation and prosperity. Enjoy a day of performances and activities inspired by the exhibition Paris 1900: City of Entertainment and the International Exposition.

 

Commuter Challenge

MONDAY, OCTOBER 22 - SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28

Downtown employees: sign up for this Commuter Challenge! Nashville Connector, a new information hub for downtown commute solutions, is hosting a challenge that will run from Monday, October 22 to Sunday, October 28. Those who sign up will be asked to try one new commute option at least one time during that week (other than driving alone). Carpool, walk, bike, take the bus, ride the train ... and let others know. Employers and individuals who sign up will receive info about how to get engaged in this friendly competition among downtown businesses. At the end of the challenge, Nashville Connector will recognize employers with the highest rates of participation and most creative participation (get that synchronized bike train ready!). 2018 Nashville Area Chamber & P2020 Annual Celebration

Luke 14:12 Breakfast Fundraiser

In 1983, at Edgehill United Methodist Church, Laura B. McCray, without ceremony or knowledge of what would come next, set two bowls of soup before two hungry individuals. On that day the story began of the 35 year ministry that is now Luke 14:12. And today that story continues - for people from all over Nashville to serve Nashville’s homeless, hungry, and working poor. Celebrate three and a half decades of service, compassion and transformation at their annual breakfast fundraiser.
